Hi. I’m Mel! Over the last decade, I embarked on my own financial independence journey. At a certain point, I realized that pursuing financial independence didn’t mean that I had to sprint toward the FI finish line.
The financial freedom I built as I worked toward financial independence allowed me to start a business and eventually leave my 9-to-5 and transition to a semi-retired lifestyle before reaching full FI.
Most importantly, making this leap into semi-retirement will not compromise my goal of reaching FI (and retiring early, if I decide I want to). Even with this change, I am currently on track to reach full FI by my mid-40s.
My goal in creating this challenge is to put together the types of tools and resources that I would have loved to have early on my own journey!
Throughout the last 6 years of running my business as a financial coach, I’ve had the pleasure of working with many clients in their journey towards financial independence.
I got to see the unique challenges my clients face in taking their first steps towards financial independence and the life they want.
Does crafting a concrete plan to reach FI result in fear, stress, and anxiety?
Are you afraid that you don’t have the knowledge, skills, money or confidence to create a path that works for you?
Don’t waste any more precious time not taking action on creating your FI plan or better adapting it to your needs because you:

Mel is a financial coach. She is an expert in helping individuals, couples and families pay off debt, create budgets, and design their own financial independence roadmaps.
Over the last decade, her own family progressed from a negative net worth to achieve over 80% of their target financial independence number. Mel considers that she has already built her ideal life, working only 20 hours per week on her passion business and less in the summer, allowing her plenty of space to balance out the things that matter most to her.
In her financial coaching, she utilizes the skills and knowledge from her trilingual Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and career as a Senior Business Analyst in the Canadian Federal Government. She has a compassionate and positive approach to finances to facilitate optimal learning and sustainable progress.
After discovering FIRE in 2012, I was deeply motivated to make it work for me and my family so I threw myself into crafting a plan with a lot of excitement.
Yet, my initial excitement was misguided. My first years were spent looking for the ultimate frugality tip and searching for the optimal investment strategy.
I focused on the wrong steps, spending a lot of time learning about subjects that have done very little to propel me forward on this journey.
What made the biggest difference is that I began paying closer attention to what my finances needed to look like to support the life I want. I started to reach out to others on this path for support and took in the lessons they had learned along their own journey.
After that shift, it didn’t take long for my path to start to merge into this ideal life even before reaching my full financial independence.
You don’t need to spend hours of your time learning about useless and complex strategies. There is no reason for you so feel anxious and stress at not doing frugality the right way.
This challenge will allow you to discover the simple steps that will help you make progress sooner and more consistently.
You’ll be able to adapt your plan in a way that will bring your more happiness along the journey.
Are you ready to invest in learning about the first steps that will help you start making concrete progress towards your own financial independence?
Thanks to this challenge, you’ll be saving hours of time by not having to do research on complex “get to FIRE quickly” strategies that will do little to propel you forward on this journey. You’ll find new ways of reducing your spending thanks to clarity on what brings true and sustainable value in your life, quickly making up for this small investment.
You’ll also benefit from the unique value of solidifying your learning thanks to opportunities to ask questions and share in the context of a like-minded group of individuals.
Anyone can benefit from the knowledge of someone who’s been through this and has seen many others adapt their plans for a journey that brings them more satisfaction.
